The 2026 Photo Calendar from Dan Bowhay is here – featuring a selection of 12 images from his award-winning project, ‘Between These Times’.

35 years on from Margaret Thatcher’s governance, her impact on the English bus network is still strongly visible. The result of her privatising buses led to the creation of powerful, privately owned monopolies, which has resulted in the decline in service quality that we see today. In the decade to 2019, over 3000 routes were cut, 1.49 billion pounds was lost to shareholders, and fares nearly doubled in real terms, and as of 2024, the big 5 private operators carry 70% of passengers.

The photos in this 2026 calendar follow the journey that I undertook, travelling the length of England on public buses in an effort to assess and raise awareness for issues in regard to service quantity and quality found across England, especially for those who are solely reliant on public transport.
